A field item is an item which is usable in the overworld. They can have a variety of effects, such as causing or preventing wild Pokémon battles, or moving the player elsewhere.

Repels[]

Repels let the player walk a certain number of steps without encountering wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first member in the player's party. It is sold in most Poké Marts. Its design is that of an aerosol spray and is similar to insect repellent. It is available in three strengths. A dialog pops up after a Repel runs out, asking if the player wants to use another one.

Honey[]

Honey can be used in tall grass, where it acts in a manner similar to the move Sweet Scent, starting a wild Pokémon battle. It cannot cause a wild encounter if the overworld weather is not clear.

Escape Rope[]

Escape Ropes are used in places such as caves to warp back to the entrance from which the player entered. This effect alleviates the necessity to have a Pokémon with Dig in the party, when a player wants to exit a cave or similar location quickly.

Flutes[]

There are two kinds of Flute which affect the encounter rate of wild Pokémon. The effects of these Flutes do not stack with themselves or each other, and last until the player leaves the area in which they used the Flute.

Flutes can be used indefinitely and are not consumed.
