Nurshary’s maternal instinct extends beyond its own children. It will often adopt sick or injured Pokémon, caring for them until they return to health.
Original and unused concepts for Nurshary and its branched evolution
At one time, Nurshary was intended to evolve from a bivalve Pokémon that resembled a first aid kit, which could also evolve into a sturgeonsurgeon. However, Nurshary was the only one of the three to get enough support to be added to the Pokédex.
Design origin[]
Nushary is based on a nurse shark, as well as the concept of an actual nurse. It is pink and slightly effeminate, akin to other Pokémon that have traditionally been depicted as nurses, and its dorsal fin is shaped like a nurse's cap. The large pink cross on its head is a reference to the International Red Cross symbol which denotes medical intent in much of the world.
Name origin[]
Nurshary's name is a combination of nurse, nursery and shark.
