Trivia

• Royjibiv, along with its pre-evolution, Arjibi, was the final Pokémon concept added to the game. Its design wouldn't be finalized until much later, however.
• In spite of its namesake, Royjibiv has no indigo in its color scheme.

Design origin

Early concept art for Royjibiv.

Royjibiv is based on the optical illusion known as rods or skyfish. It also draws inspiration from optical prisms, as well as the Rainbow Serpent of Australian Aboriginal mythology.

Name origin

Royjibiv's name is a phonetic spelling of the acronym ROYGBIV, a mnemonic for remembering the colours of the rainbow.
