Trivia

Design origin

Volcoalder is based on an erupting volcano. The subject of Volcoalder's inspiration and design holds a controversial position on the Pokémon Sage community, as it is disputed whether or not Volcoalder closely resembles a Kaiju, the giant monsters from Japanese popular culture. This is due to the deemed correlation between Pokémon resembling Kaiju and being able to learn the move 'Surf' by Hidden Machine in the official games.

Name origin

Volcoalder's name is a combination of volcano, coal and a corruption of caldera, a volcanic feature caused by the collapse of land following an eruption.
